NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Titans selected UCLA linebacker Jayon Brown in the fifth round of Saturday's NFL Draft.

The 6-foot, 230-pound Brown tallied 119 tackles last season for the Bruins, and totaled 220 stops in his playing career. He was a first-team All- Pac-12 conference selection last year, when he ranked in the top 15 in the nation in solo tackles per game.

"I'll do anything coaches tell me to do and hopefully come in and make an impact right away,'' Brown said after being picked. "I'm glad to be a Titan."

Brown was teammates with Titans linebacker Aaron Wallace at UCLA. He said he wants to be known as a playmaker in Tennessee, where he'll play under defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau.

"He is a great coach, and I am ready to learn from him and perform," Brown said of LeBeau. "I met with the Titans at the combine and they worked me out at UCLA, so I got familiar with the coaches."

Titans linebackers coach Lou Spanos is also a former defensive coordinator at UCLA, and Spanos coached Brown at the school. Brown went to the same high school - Long Beach Poly - as Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey.

Brown recovered two fumbles for the Bruins, and was tied for 10th in the Pac-12 with three interceptions while starting 12 games in 2016. He recorded five double-digit tackle games, including 19 stops in a game against Colorado and 14 tackles vs California.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson went and saw Brown play in person at the UCLA-Colorado game this past season, and was impressed.

"He's an athletic linebacker," Robinson said. "Good movement skills. We worked him out privately. He is a smart football player. He will factor in the kicking game. He ran well for us. I think he was in the mid-4.5s, low 4.6s. He should play in the kicking game as well. We are excited to add him."

Brown will play inside linebacker with the Titans in the team's 3-4 defense.

"With good technique and knowing the defense well, I have been able to make plays," Brown said. "Hopefully I'll continue to do that at the next level."

The Titans traded with the Eagles to move up and get Brown, who was selected with the 155th overall pick. The Titans gave up pick No.164 in the fifth round and pick No. 214 in the sixth round.
